Maple Threads - Tailoring and Dress Rental

It’s finally done!
Story time: A few years ago, I joined a quilting club, even though I had very little experience quilting. I had recently moved and wanted to connect with people who had similar interests. Also my mother told me if you learn one new sewing skill it’s never a waste because you will use it the rest of your life. One of my good friends in the club helped us all design individual Harry Potter quilts. I am a big Harry Potter fan, so this was right up my alley and I had lots of fun putting it together. Not all my clothing sewing skills transferred over to quilting but it was still fun to try. I learned a lot like, I would rather work with clothing than quilts. I still loved creating this!
A little about the quilt: the pieces were cut out on a cricket, ironed on and then secured with a hand blanket stitch. For the machine quilting I started by sewing around all the pieces and adding some design details to make them pop. Then I loved coming up with different designs to put in each squares background that corresponded to what was on it. The pictures don’t quite do it justice, even the close ups. My favorite part is the space between the squares with the foot prints and the marauders names. The edge is a copy of Hogwarts train tickets border. This thing took over 5 years to complete. So fun, but I think I will be sticking with clothing from now on.
What I am going to do with it? I have no idea but I love it!

Sheer is a popular trend right now. Some people like it more than others. So something I have been doing a lot lately is filling pieces that have sheer sections. Here is one example of the a cute dress where the costumer wanted the sleeves filled in it. It turned out great!

I finally finished the pillows and cushions in our reading nook in the basement! I made all the pillows and the big cushion except one. I saw a home pillow in a store with a princess castle on it and had the idea for this one. My husband and I came up with idea to put the Payson temple on it instead. As I was finishing up the pillow and I had the thought that the pillow kind of has a double meaning. Not only is it talking about our home but our eternal home. The temple is what makes that possible. I’m grateful for modern temples and the blessing we receive from them. I am grateful for prophet and modern revelation. I have been loving the spirit that general conference is bringing into your home and can’t wait for the rest of it.

I am finally opening! It’s been a longer break than expected. The basement took a little longer and we added a new little family member. I am finally ready to start taking work again. Please keep in mind there is longer turn around time right now. I’m excited to start up again!
