Door knockers: this is common, “I am in the area and if you pave today, for cash and no contract, you will save money”. Time and time again, we get phone calls from people who fall for this scam. Not only do they end up with a half ass job but then they find out they would have paid the same (sometimes less) contracting with someone like us who follows the law and write out a contract you have for record. Make sure on your contract it states the depth or inches of asphalt installed.

Don’t risk your project on a handshake deal.
Written contracts protect homeowners — and they’re required by law.
Check a contractor’s license before you hire. Visit cslb.ca.gov to find a licensed contractor in your area.

Before & After: Calistoga Private Road Chip Seal

These shots were taken before and after we constructed a private road for a customer on undeveloped land in Calistoga in the Napa Valley.

One of the biggest misconceptions about constructing a new private road is that it starts with asphalt. But paving is one of the final steps in a much bigger process.

On undeveloped rural property, road construction starts with planning the route carefully around terrain, drainage patterns, slopes, trees, and access requirements. From there, the site may need clearing, excavation, grading, soil stabilization, drainage systems, culverts, and proper base rock installation before any paving surface is applied.

And in the North Bay, drainage matters a lot. A beautiful road that doesn’t handle water correctly won’t stay beautiful for long.

Our goal isn’t just to create a road that looks good today, but to build one that performs well season after season with minimal maintenance issues.

At Pimentel Paving, we’ve worked on rural road construction projects throughout Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties for decades. Every property is different, which is why experience with grading, drainage, and long-term road performance matters just as much as the final paving surface itself.

If you’re planning access to undeveloped land, we’re always happy to talk through the process and help you understand what’s involved in creating a road that serves your purpose and respects the landscape around it.
