I am primarily a wedding photographer but also photograph children, family, and bo***ir. I take the same casual, candid, organic approach to children and family photography as well. BUT you want to know a secret? Do you want to know why I really love being a wedding photographer? why I don’t just call myself a photographer who shoots weddings along with a thousand other things, why I am proud and fueled by being a WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER? Because when I see your 80 year old Grandma get out of her chair to sit in her Husbands lap so they can snuggle in close as they listen to the toast, basking in a room full of the family they created, I feel honored to capture it. To get the opportunity to capture your parents as they hold hands and shed a tear as you walk down the aisle. To get the opportunity to photograph your brother as he dances with the bridesmaid he was so annoyed you had, only to find out years later they fell in love and got married and these captured memories now memorialize their first spark. To be the one who captures your Grandparents as they take a shot with your college friends, and beat them to the bar top. To capture that split second that Man sets eyes on the love of his life in a white dress as she glides down the aisle toward him. To capture all of the children in your family or the children of your close friends who will grow up way way too fast. To photograph your cousin who will later go off to war and pay the ultimate sacrifice, leaving only these candid memories caught by my camera. Sure I love making great portraiture. I love my time with the Bride and Groom where I can capture them in an amazing set of images they will surely print and frame on the wall for years to come. But really, why I am so honored to be a wedding photographer is the opportunity to capture the little moments through out the day that represent the TRUE joy, love, and spirit of the day. It’s the genuine connection I feel with my couples and their family that I thrive off of. Your flowers will be gorgeous, your cake will taste amazing, the centerpieces and table arrangements will be adored, and the food is going to be talked about for years to come. But all of that will will provide a days worth of enjoyment. I’d be willing to bet you think I’m going to say the photos are what will last forever, huh? well, yes. But really, its not about the photos. It’s about the memories created in that single day that will last everyone a lifetime. It’s just my honor to be the one to capture it all, every little tiny moment I can. So the memories do last a lifetime. It’s not my job to make the wedding all about the photos, stopping every moment in its tracks so I can capture it just right. NO WAY. It’s not about me making all the Groomsmen miserable so I can get some “proper” shots of them. It’s about everyone having the freedom to enjoy this day, to bask in all of it’s chaotic glory and for me to be there to capture it with out you hardly noticing. Just because the photos are the most important part of memorializing your day forever doesn’t mean the day has to revolve around the photos, rather the photographer should revolve around the memories. That is what I treasure about my job, that is the responsibility that I hold true to with every single wedding. That’s why my job is an honor.
