A fantastic example of Augmented Reality’s utilitarian applications in communication. A/R is a technology that superimposes computer-generated images on a user’s real-world environment. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, A/R uses the existing environment with interactive overlays of new information layered on top in real time; as demonstrated by the TV2 Nord team in their original broadcast.
Humans are profoundly visual beings, as evidenced by: roughly 30% of neurons in the cerebral cortex being devoted to vision, compared to 8% for touch and 2% for hearing. A/R provides a technological advantage in communication through interactive applications; which educate intuitively, engage organically and undeniably excite the users/viewers. Advances in technology, drastically reduced costs and an increase in developers allow utilitarian purposes far beyond entertainment applications. A/R is becoming a fundamental part of higher education, the medical sector, and many other industries including sports journalism.
“Augmented reality is going to change everything. We’re already seeing things that will transform the way you work, play, connect and learn."
