What’s your go-to BBQ sauce- store-bought or homemade? 👀
Tangy Plum Barbecue Sauce
* 1 onion, chopped
* 2 tbsp olive oil
* 6 ripe plums, pitted and chopped
* 1 cup ketchup
* ½ cup apple cider vinegar
* ¼ cup Dijon mustard
* ¼ cup soy sauce or tamari
* 1 tsp black pepper
* 1 tsp paprika
* 2 tsp garlic powder
* ½ tsp chipotle powder
* 2–3 tbsp honey (or brown sugar), to taste
Method
1. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until caramelized.
2. Stir in the chopped plums, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, soy sauce (or tamari), black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and chipotle powder.
3. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring every few minutes to prevent the sugars from sticking and burning.
4. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until completely smooth.
5. Taste and adjust with 2–3 tablespoons of honey (or brown sugar) if you’d like a sweeter, more balanced sauce.
6. Let cool before transferring to a storage container. Refrigerate until ready to use.
