Before I met Joshua, I prayed for him 🙏🏽
In my singleness, I made a list called “How to Know” to prevent myself from settling.
DEALBREAKERS 🙅🏻♀️
▪ Must have a strong and solid relationship with God with the motivation to grow in his spiritual walk
▪ Must be HUMBLE. Someone who is secure in his self-worth and abilities
▪ Must have a heart for helping people
▪ Must have similar life paths
▪ Must have a similar sense of humor
▪ Must have no addictions, anger issues, or major unresolved issues (e.g. resentment, unforgiveness, etc.)
▪ Must have a strong view on divorce NOT being an option
▪ Must want kids and is good with children
▪ Someone who is “best friend” status
▪ Someone who I can see myself having conversations with forever
PREFERENCES❣️
▪ Someone who pursues me
▪ Someone who is older than me (Note: 5 years max)
▪ Someone who points me to truth in a honest, but kind way
▪ Someone who is not afraid to DTR (i..e “define the relationship”)
▪ Someone who genuinely tries to get to know me
▪ Someone who understands the importance of family
▪ Someone I can argue with, but reconcile with
▪ Someone who is open-minded
▪ Someone who will be my travel buddy
▪ Someone who is in good health and treats his body like a temple
▪ Someone who I can trust to lead me well
▪ Someone who will defend and advocate for me
▪ Someone who will go dancing with me
▪ Someone who has similar taste in music or is open to listening to mine
▪ My parents, cousins, and friends must like him
▪ Someone who is clean and organized
▪ Someone who I always get excited to see
▪ Someone who loves and accepts me for who I am
One night, God reminded me of the list that I had made years prior and convicted my heart that Joshua held those characteristics and even surpassed them with even more wonderful qualities.
Praying the God who brought us together in the first place will Himself restore our marriage and bring us back together again soon 🙏🏽💖
