Carousel

Given the terrific weather, we thought we would see a few more boats as we made our way south to Tobermory at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula in SW Ontario. Tobermory offers multiple tourist cruise options with plenty of dockage in a well protected harbor. For boaters there is a washer and dryer at the marina. But, better yet, there is a laundromat within walking distance, in time for our beding change to prepare for the arrival of Maggie, Brendan and Wesley. Just off shore is the Five Fathoms Marine Park, home to many shipwrecks. Just off the coast lies Flowerpot Island.

The sun came out just as we passed through the bridge into Little Current, last Sunday, Jul 13th. We arrived in time to get docked with help from fellow members of the Great Lakes Cruising Club. We were there for the 60th anniversary of modern day rendezvoused at the place where the first was held. We spent 4 days catching up with members we only get to see at the rendezvous as well as making several new friends. The hosts,Jib and Debbie Turner did an outstanding job of planning the activities, speakers, meals and awards dinner. Jib is the grandson of one of the founders of Great Lakes Cruising Club. The second floor of Turners Variety Store (a staple in Little Current, owned and managed by many generations of Turners) is dedicated to the boating history of the North Channel. The weather held sunny and warm right up until we were returning to our boats on Thursday night after the awards time. We were able to get aboard before the heavens opened and poured all night.

Maggie, Brendan and Wesley are coming to spend a week with us in a few weeks. Maggie made a countdown “calendar” for Wesley to know when he will be coming aboard Carousel. We will be meeting them in SW Ontario to travel the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Deb finally retired yesterday so we will be catching up on Summer 2025 posts as well as doing flashback Thursday posts of the last 1/2 of our Scandinavian cruise.
