I want to give a shout out to a company that we have worked with for awhile. A/C Xpress. They are awesome. They have repaired our robinair machine when it is needed and they have done our AC work when the machine is waiting on parts. If anyone needs work done they are mobile and can come to you.

This week we had a customer tow in a theft recovery vehicle for inspection. After reviewing the vehicle with the customer, we went through their concerns, including possible engine damage. Interestingly, the car had very little visible body damage.

While discussing the situation, the first thing I recommended was performing a m**h contamination test. Many people are unaware that stolen vehicles can sometimes be used for drug activity, and m**h can leave behind a toxic residue inside the vehicle that poses serious health risks.

The customer had never considered this, and was surprised that it hadn’t been mentioned earlier. At our shop, testing is one of the first steps we recommend when dealing with theft recovery vehicles.

The test results came back the following day and confirmed the presence of m**h contamination. For safety reasons, we immediately informed the insurance company that we would not begin any repairs until the vehicle was professionally decontaminated.

After reviewing the results, the insurance company ultimately chose to total the vehicle due to health concerns.

Situations like this highlight an important point: testing for contamination should always be considered after a theft recovery. While some vehicles can be successfully sanitized, the contamination levels can sometimes be extremely high. In fact, the last vehicle we tested—a minivan—came back with the highest levels the testing company had ever recorded in a vehicle.
