SLCC’s program at Utah State Prison has its first graduating class Salt Lake Community College's Prison Education Program recently awarded 16 associate degrees and seven certificates of completion to people incarcerated in the Utah State Correctional Facility – the program's first class of graduates.

At our first graduation ceremony, our program had 16 students receive their associates degree, and 7 more that earned certificates of completion.

The last time we shared a news article about our program, we were working towards our very first graduation. Well, we recently had our second graduation and our program continues to grow!

Today we opened up the first secure laptops we'll be able to distribute to each our students. They will now be able to access educational content and type up research projects. This new access to modern technology will prove life-changing in our efforts to provide transformative education. We feel so grateful to all those who have helped make this incredible dream a reality.

SLCC was one of 67 colleges and universities around the country to have been granted this opportunity to extend Pell Grants to students in the prison system.
Inmates can use Second Chance Pell Grants to attend SLCC Salt Lake Community College has been designated a Second Chance Pell institution, which means incarcerated students can use federal Pell Grants to attend the institution.
