Schweitzer Avalanche Rescue Dogs

Reba passed her Northern Rockies Avalanche Canines backcountry certification test!!!! Thank you so much Silver Ski Patrol for putting on the test! A dog handler team which achieves the backcountry level is a deployable resource outside of a ski resort. To achieve the NRAC Backcountry validation, a dog and handler team must quickly find and extricate an unknown number of subjects, 2 to 4, buried in a search area the size of a large avalanche. Dog and handler must also demonstrate backcountry travel techniques to reach the search site.

With the incredible snowfall we’re enjoying, conditions can change quickly out there. We strongly encourage everyone to ski and ride with a partner and keep each other in sight, especially in deep snow and gladed terrain.
