The witnesses of the Houston shooting are in ICE custody and have applied for U-Visa protections. However, due to arbitrary caps, there is at least a seven-year backlog on these visas. That’s why I introduced the Immigrant Witness and Victim Protection Act to remove these caps and allow witnesses to come forward without fear of deportation. I will continue to work in Congress on commonsense immigration reform and to keep our communities safe.
