Today, we gave public comment to oppose CDCr Restricted Housing Unit (RHU) regulations along side other community leaders and organizations. The proposed regulations are to recreate indeterminant solitary confinement in California prisons.

RHU is solitary confinement, formally known as the SHU but worse! Eliminating canteen access, radio, restricting meaningful programming, using administrative decisions which is Not behavioral based, bypassing due process to once again give indeterminate RHU time. CDCr is creating an “increase in violence” narrative to justify this inhumane practice.

Stanford study proved mental health consequences from being in long term solitary that we should never wish on anybody. We encourage CDCr to carefully consider how this affects incarcerated individuals ability to maintain positive family and community connections.

Photos from today’s press conference for recently reinstated San Jose State University Professor Dr. Sang Kil. We stand in solidarity with Dr. Sang Kil and all continuing the fight for Palestinian freedom and an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

On November 21, 2025, San Jose State University, a CSU school, became the first public American university ever to fire a full tenured professor, Dr. Sang Kil, for engaging in on-campus activism in support of Palestine. After several rounds of appeals, on June 22, 2026, an arbitrator found CSU had violated the law and ordered it to reinstate Dr. Kil as a
tenured professor.

Dr. Kil has now filed a lawsuit against CSU and SJSU leadership for their discriminatory and retaliatory attempts to silence and punish her for speaking out in solidarity with and supporting Palestine and members of the Muslim and Arab community.
