When a fourth-year vet student asked if the horses scheduled for WSU’s terminal surgery lab could be adopted instead of killed, they were told it wasn’t possible due to USDA policy. Records later confirmed no such policy existed.
The horses were healthy and adoptable. Animal sanctuaries had already committed. WSU’s own simulation center offered an alternative path.
