Wil Martin is the founder and lead vocalist of alt-metal band Earshot, a project that’s developed and evolved since its debut in 1999 through multiple periods of loss, hiatus, release, and renewal. After the original lineup separated in 2002, Earshot spent years largely quiet, until recently.

The band has reemerged with an impressive new chapter for old and new fans alike, including the completion of a tour this past fall, their first since 2010, as well as their October 2025 release of their amazing new fourth album, Humaning, produced by the legendary Johnny K.

Outside of Earshot, Wil is also a personal development coach and music producer, and that lens- how we grow, fail, and choose to keep going- is a big part of this conversation.

Plus, he gives great hugs.

Last week, I had the honor and privilege of spending some time with of on my latest podcast episode. Here’s one of my favorite quotes from our conversation:

“It finally clicked, like, “Holy s**t. This is what I was writing about.” It’s almost like your subconscious is writing these notes. And sometimes you don’t decode them for, in my case, years later.

Internally, I was like, “Oh my god... I’m starting to understand what this song is about… what that’s touching inside of me. The questions that I’ve spent a lifetime trying to figure out and understand? These lyrics are starting to connect the dots.”
