Three Rivers Land Trust
Our team conducted a growing season prescribed burn in Rowan County.
Unlike dormant-season burns conducted in winter, growing-season burns occur while vegetation is actively growing. This can promote native plant diversity, improve wildlife habitat, and better mimic natural fire cycles.
We primarily used backing fire, a slower-moving fire that burns against the wind. While time-intensive, it provides greater control, lower flame lengths, and effective fuel reduction.
Prescribed fire remains one of the most valuable tools we use to steward and restore healthy landscapes across our region.
If prescribed fire and habitat management interest you, join us at the Habitat Summit on August 7, 2026, at the Rowan Community Event Center in Salisbury.
This one-day workshop brings together nationally recognized experts to share the latest techniques and research on prescribed fire, wildlife habitat management, forestry, conservation, and land stewardship.

You did it.
The first and highest priority parcel of the Save Tuckertown campaign is officially under contract with Three Rivers Land Trust.
This approximately 200-acre property includes more than a mile of riverfrontage along the eastern side of the reservoir and marks an important step forward in conserving these lands for future generations.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported this effort so far. Thank you for believing in the importance of keeping these lands undeveloped and publicly accessible. A special thank you as well to our partners at onX Hunt and MeatEater for helping bring attention to this campaign.
While today is certainly worth celebrating, the work is far from over. The effort to Save Tuckertown continues, and we’ll need your continued support as the next opportunity comes into focus.
This is just the beginning.
