CIAA- the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, once known as the Colored Intercollegiate Athletic Association but took on a name change in 1950. The CIAA was founded in 1912 on the campus of Hampton Institute (Hampton University) and is the oldest African-American athletic conference in the United States.
In 1946 and with a $500 budget the ciaa tournament made its debut in the Washington, DC Turner’s Arena.
