Today, we took a major step toward the future of agriculture education.

Hartnell College officially launched the Agriculture Systems Training Employment Program (AgSTEP), a statewide initiative designed to connect the classroom with the real demands of California’s agricultural industry. Through a 12 unit stackable college certificate and a curriculum focused on AgTech, irrigation, and food safety, AgSTEP will create meaningful pathways for our students.

Developed in collaboration with our Career Technical Education (CTE) and Workforce Development teams, regional leaders, partners, and industry professionals gathered to share insights and experience with the goal of aligning education with the evolving needs of our regional agricultural industry. Today’s milestone marks the first step in ensuring this new competency based model reflects and addresses the real world demands of ag operations across the region.

From organizing meaningful events to representing students in decision-making spaces, Gladys Cabrera Luis (Cici) made the most of her role. As the ASHC President and Student Trustee during the 2025-26 academic year, her leadership was driven by purpose and rooted in an authentic desire to serve.
