On my drive from Gold Beach to Coquille, I made a stop I'll never forget — pulling over in Bandon to visit with a group of proud, patriotic American Veterans. I am deeply honored to serve on the Oregon House of Representatives Veterans Committee, and moments like this remind me exactly why that work matters so much. As I always say: all Veterans gave some, and some gave all.

These four heroes had a sign nearby that said it perfectly: "If you can't stand behind our Veterans, please feel free to stand in front of them." Amen to that. I ask everyone reading this to please consider supporting those who sacrificed for our freedom.

One of the greatest gifts of public service is the chance to reconnect with people who shaped your life. At the OHA Banquet in Coquille, I had the joy of running into Jerry and Sue Forty from Myrtle Point — dear friends of nearly 45 years! Their kids Robin and Joel worked for me up at Paradise Lodge back in the late '80s and early '90s, and they were two of the finest employees I ever had the privilege of working alongside.

Seeing Jerry and Sue brought back so many wonderful memories. Oregon is full of good, hardworking, salt-of-the-earth people — and the Forty family is the very best of them. So grateful for friendships that stand the test of time. ❤️
