Happy National Puerto Rican Day Parade this Sunday. Our Boricua pride delivers fuerza, orgullo, and resistance. My grandparents migrated to New York City as laborers, World War 2 veterans, parents, child care providers, musicians and dedicated cultural leaders in their own individual capacity and commitment to their families and communities.
I am proud to be Boricua. To carry this legacy in our diaspora as a daughter of NuyoRicans and a proud SOTARICAN who will always remember their sacrifices, contributions and accomplishments. I am proud to have been raised with our traditions of Bomba, Plena, to Salsa, Hip Hop and reggaeton!
My Abuela’s Pueblo of Vega Baja is being honored at the National Parade today and as a nieta of el Melao, Melao…embracing our Jibaro movements for liberation and justice for Puerto Ricans on the island, NuyoRicans of the Boroughs , Jersey, Philly, Milwaukee, Ohio, Detroit, Florida, The Bay Area, Dallas, to our beautiful strong ChicagoRicans holding down Barrio Borikén in Humboldt Park. We wave our flags here in Minnesota that has deep connections towards Puerto Rican philanthropic efforts to support cultural arts educational partnerships, institutions, athletes, medical professionals, artists, musicians educators and politicians.
Pa’lante siempre.
