Weekend Walk: Peace Officers Memorial
Doubling back a little as we make our virtual circuit around the lower mall, we find the Peace Officers Memorial. Its purpose is to pay tribute to all peace officers, but especially those who have died in the line of duty.
Designed by Fred Richter and Mark Wentzell, the granite monolith in the center was first placed in the main concourse of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in 1977. In 1995 it was relocated and dedicated on the capitol mall and the surrounding features of the memorial were added. This includes a thin blue line with LED lights running the length of the memorial.
