The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has proposed drastic changes to the operating cords on custom window coverings.

The proposed rule would require operating cords on custom window coverings to meet identical requirements for operating cords on stock window coverings, as set forth in 2018.

The ANSI standard requires stock window coverings to have:

(1) No operating cords (cordless or motorized);
(2) inaccessible operating cords; or
(3) operating cords shorter than 8 inches in any use position.

While Safety should be a priority for everyone, these changes will have a huge impact on all consumers. With restricting the cord lengths, this is creating an accessibility issue for the handicapped individuals who cannot operate cordless (or 8" corded) window treatments. The cost factor for motorized window coverings will exclude a sizeable slice of consumers. As a small business, it's imperative we continue to help support our community by offering AFFORDABLE & HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE products.
