We’ve just jumped into spring although, with the cold weather and snow that moved in yesterday, it kind of feels like winter is still here. What a winter it was too! Definitely one to remember. As we enjoy the crazy spring weather, I’d like to take a moment to go through some spring cleaning pointers that often get overlooked.

One of the basic ones is of course your HVAC filter. Make sure to swap it out to keep your HVAC running great and reduce your utility bills. A dirty filter can increase your utility bill by up to 15%, according to the Department of Energy, never mind the strain it puts on the system leading to more frequent repairs and a shortened lifespan of the HVAC system.

Next one I’d like to point out is the dryer vent. We all clean out the dryer vent filter pretty regularly when we do laundry but it’s a good idea to get the dryer ducting cleaned out at least once a year. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, 2900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and 34% of those are caused by failure to clean the dryer.

Another thing to keep in mind is that with the warmer weather pests are going to start coming out in force. Doing a thorough cleaning of kitchens, pantries, and any other areas where food crumbs might accumulate can help discourage pests from sharing the home with you!
