The summer months in Florida have historically also meant an increase in childhood drownings. If you are a parent, we recommend you follow the ABC's of swimming safety: Always have a designated, sober ADULT monitoring children while they swim. Set BARRIERS to keep small children from drowning hazards, especially locked doors and gates to prevent young children from entering swimming pools. Enroll your child in swim CLASSES and as parents take CPR. Not sure where to take classes? Our own Chris Lyle Aquatic Center hosts them. Come out and be a part of an amazing global event as we work together with waterparks, pools, and recreation centers on six continents to learn important water competency and safety skills. Drowning is preventable, but sadly, it’s the single LEADING cause of death for kids 1-4 and the second leading cause of unintended injury/death for kids 5-14.
