Recently a person wearing prescription safety glasses had a chemical substance splash on his eyewear. A solvent was used to remove the foreign substance but as you can see; destroyed the frame. You can use acetone free nail polish remover but anything else will result in damage to the lenses and frame.
And keep in mind; the packaged lens wipes depending on their alcohol content can also damage ophthalmic frames and lenses
For instance, ZEISS Lens Cleaning Wipes are advertised as having 70% alcohol.
Potential for Damage: High concentrations of alcohol, especially undiluted rubbing alcohol, can potentially damage lens coatings, including anti-reflective coatings and mirror coatings. It may also affect some types of plastic frames. It dries the ophthalmic frame out which leads to cracking.
