We are heartbroken to say that our former co-worker, and forever friend, Laurie McKemie McCloud, has passed away this morning. She fought a valiant battle with Covid pneumonia. Please keep all her family, but especially her sweet girls, Carly and Reagan, in your prayers.

We have recently been fielding LOTS of questions regarding whether we will continue as TX LTC Instructors, in wake of the current legislation, and why you still need a license.

Here is our response:

Why do I need an LTC since Constitutional Carry has passed the TX Legislature?
First, the legislature did not pass true “Constitutional Carry”. That would mean there would be no restrictions on places you can carry, either openly or concealed.

What did pass, pending governor signature, and effective Sept 1, 2021, is “Permitless Carry”, meaning you are not required to have a license to carry in most places. The LTC Class will teach you the laws concerning where you can, and cannot, carry. And also, what you can, and cannot, legally do regarding use of force/deadly force.

Reciprocity with other states - the Texas LTC gives you formal written reciprocity with 31 other states. Other states may not recognize your right to carry without the license.

Fi****ms purchase without a NICS background check. The NICS system can be delayed during busy times. The TX LTC bypasses the NICS system, since you have already passed the background check, and ensures you can purchase a firearm, and have it immediately transferred to you.

Contact with Law Enforcement while carrying is much easier when you have a license to carry, as they know up front that you are legally eligible to possess and carry a firearm.
