For the month of May, ARTHOUSE presents Palimpsest, a solo exhibit by Taner Paşamehmetoğlu.

In this exhibit, each piece emphasizes process, which shows the accumulation of line and the construction of surface. The process creates compositions that feel both architectural and meditative. Monochromatic palettes and translucent materials invite close looking, turning repetition and variation into the study of rhythm, stillness, and spatial depth. 

A palimpsest is a manuscript or surface on which earlier writing has been scraped away to make room for the new, but traces of the original remain visible beneath. 

Paşamehmetoğlu says, “I find my abstract work often feels like a palimpsest. I build paintings in many layers over long periods of time. Words frequently enter the surface first as attempts to articulate something I want to express but cannot fully capture through language alone. Through layering, erasing, and rearranging, those words dissolve into shape and rhythm and are meant to be felt instead of read. “

Paşamehmetoğlu works from his home studio in Sacramento and is a member artist at Axis Gallery and Atrium 916. His work has been exhibited throughout California and Utah, and his painting “The American Dream" has been used in curriculum at the University of California Berkeley.
