The ranks of the gamer army have been swelling for years, now, and for most of us there is no longer any stigma attached to an open discussion on gaming. On the contrary, for most of us it is relatively easy to find others with a desire to toss some dice or move some models around. As many of us who grew up playing tabletop games have since “come of age,” the time-honored elements of beer and soci
al interaction have found their ways into our lives. My own story involves the arduous process of turning my garage into a gaming and drinking den, where my friends and I could play games like Pathfinder and the Star Wars RPG without the problems we’ve all encountered in gaming. When we played at local gaming shops, as friendly and open as those places were, we’d have the problems of not being able to drink and being forced to carefully monitor our language. When we played in group members’ living rooms, we’d have the problems of lacking space and having scheduling and privacy issues with family members. While my mission to create a gaming haven for my group was successful, two of us began to express a desire to do something bigger involving our passions. We wanted to create a place where even more gamers could get together and game in an adult setting, replete with others to play with and the support system (read: food, drinks, and tons of games) to encourage a great time. For my business and adventuring partner Dariush, owning his own business is something he has been wanting to do for a very long time. While he enjoys the technical “gaming” side of gaming and thought of starting his own game system company, he settled on something nearer to his heart – the social side of gaming. When he came to me with the idea to open up a gaming tavern, he was amazed at how quickly I responded with “Holy **** on a *****, I’ve been thinking the same thing!”
