A little more than two years have passed since Insight became part of Gladys’ and my life. The sense of despair and hopelessness that were part of my life at that time have completely disappeared.

In Gladys I am witness of strength and courage when she became honest and faced the fears and challenges that life placed before her. I remember asking a therapist if she would one day be independent, be able to earn a living, drive a car, take care of herself, etc. She has done all these and so much more. She finished highschool, started college, works as a student mentor, drives a car (that she is paying for herself); any and all of the typical achievements of a young person today. More importantly, I am witness of her spirituality and service to others. She inspires me with her prayers and reflective journaling. She is a sponsor for other kids in the program, and it is common for her to receive calls from group members or to invite kids to hang out at our place.

For me, the Insight parent group has been a source of loving companionship and support. These past two years of sharing my challenges, occasionally presenting topics, and listening to other parents share their experience has been a source of hope and strength to take back control of my life.

I’m enormously grateful for the financial help we received from The Mustard Tree Foundation. It was fundamental for us to receive this help so that we could both embark on this journey of recovery with the Insight Program here in Tampa.
