Walking in the Spirit Begins with Knowing Jesus

For years, I read about walking in the flesh and walking in the Spirit, but those phrases remained more like theological concepts than living reality.

Everything began to change when my focus shifted to one Person—Jesus.

When I finally saw that the kingdom of God is centered in Christ Himself, my mind began to be renewed. And it continues to be renewed as I keep my eyes on Him. I discovered that walking in the Spirit isn’t about trying harder to be a better Christian. It’s about knowing Jesus more deeply and allowing His life to be expressed through us.

Paul wrote:

“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)

For me, the key wasn’t becoming more aware of the flesh—it was becoming more captivated by Christ.

The world doesn’t understand phrases like walking in the Spirit because the kingdom of God can only be understood as Jesus opens our eyes. The more we know Him, the more our thinking changes. Our desires change. Our lives change.

As Paul also says:

“To be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6)

I’ve found that to be true.

Walking in the Spirit is not primarily about mastering a principle. It is about knowing a Person.

The more we know Jesus, the more we experience His life, His peace, and His transforming power working within us.

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” — John 17:3

CHERISHED Part 0: Jesus Changed the Way I Love My Wife 07/01/2026

Today I'm beginning a new series that has been on my heart for a long time.

I've hesitated to write about marriage because I never want to sound like someone who has all the answers. I don't.

What I do have is a testimony.

Over the past several years, Jesus has been changing the way I love my wife. Our marriage has always been good, but He has shown me there is something even deeper than I had understood.

This won't be a series filled with marriage techniques or another checklist for husbands and wives.

It's a series about Jesus.

Because I have become convinced that biblical marriage isn't something we achieve through greater effort. It's the fruit of Christ living His life through us.

If you're married, engaged, single, divorced, or simply curious about God's design for marriage, I hope you'll join me on this journey.

Welcome to CHERISHED.

WHY WE GET ANGRY — Part 6 When Anger Becomes an Invitation 06/28/2026

Don't ignore your anger.

But don't simply manage it either.

What if anger is like the warning light
on your dashboard? It isn't the problem—it is pointing to something deeper.

Over the years I've discovered that some of my greatest moments of spiritual growth began with recognizing my anger and asking one simple question:
"Jesus, what are You showing me?"

That question has changed far more than trying harder ever did.

Part 6 of Why We Get Angry is about seeing anger not as the end of the story, but as an invitation back to abiding in Christ.

WHY WE GET ANGRY — Part 6 When Anger Becomes an Invitation What if your anger is revealing where you've stopped depending on Christ?

Truth Never Bends

This is one of the most freeing truths I’ve ever encountered.

We live in a world that constantly tells us to define truth by our experiences, our circumstances, or our feelings. But God’s truth doesn’t change because our circumstances do.

Watchman Nee wisely said that we should never lower God’s truth to match our condition. Instead, we should hold firmly to the absolute truth of God’s Word and allow that truth to lift our lives to its standard.

Feelings change.
Circumstances change.
Opinions change.

But Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

The goal isn’t to reshape truth until it agrees with us. The goal is to let Truth transform us until our lives agree with Him.

When God’s Word says you are loved, forgiven, accepted, complete, and alive in Christ, don’t measure those realities by how you feel today. Measure your feelings by what God has already declared to be true.

Truth doesn’t come down to meet us where we are.
Truth raises us up into the life Christ purchased for us.

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” — John 17:17

Inspired by the writings of Watchman Nee.

Only One Source of Love That Never Fails

We were created for relationship. Our need to be loved, valued, and accepted isn’t a flaw—it’s part of God’s design. The question isn’t whether we’ll look outside ourselves for love, but where we’ll look.

When we seek our worth primarily from people, our identity rises and falls with their approval. But when we receive our value from God, we discover a love that never changes and never has to be earned. Human relationships become a blessing rather than the foundation of our identity because our deepest need has already been met in Christ.
