In recognition of National Typewriter Day, we are sharing William "Coin" Harvey’s Underwood typewriter, circa 1930 (2016.37.1).

In 1930, Harvey decided to run in the 1932 candidacy for President of the United States and formed the Liberty Party. He began publication of the Liberty Bell to promote the party’s candidates and their platform centered on economic reforms. He hired young Kenneth Doescher to work as his secretary during the campaign. Harvey purchased this typewriter for Doescher to use for his political publication.

TOMORROW! Explore the practical and artistic world of woodcarving on Thursday, June 18, 2026. While this craft has existed for thousands of years, in early America, carving was a necessity for creating kitchen tools, furniture, and decorative items.

Participants will learn carving history and test their skills by crafting with soap, focusing on techniques that turn simple materials into works of art.

Program begins at 9:00 AM at the Key Wing Education Center. Register on the museum’s website: https://www.rogershistoricalmuseum.org/summertime-fun.html
