Severe weather swept across northern Illinois on April 15, 2026, bringing powerful thunderstorms, damaging winds, and reports of possible tornado activity. Communities including Rockford, Belvidere, Freeport, and surrounding areas experienced heavy rain, large hail, and rapidly changing conditions as the storms moved through.

Emergency alerts were issued throughout the evening, urging residents to take shelter as rotation was detected in multiple storm cells. While assessments are still ongoing, early reports indicate scattered damage to homes, trees, and power lines across the region.

As cleanup begins, residents are encouraged to stay cautious, avoid downed power lines, and continue monitoring local updates. This event is a strong reminder of how quickly severe weather can develop in northern Illinois and the importance of staying prepared.
