Lessons Learned from a CDO
Solomé Rose, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Planned Parenthood of Central Western New York
In the last ten to fifteen years the number of Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) positions have grown exponentially in the US. Due to the changing demographics at colleges and universities, diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) is becoming an increasingly essential function of an institution. This session is geared towards aspiring diversity officers, or higher education professionals working in DE&I, who are interested in learning about ways to help move an institution towards greater inclusivity and accountability. Much of the work surrounding DE&I can be very isolating and can feel like an upward battle. I hope that my story provides some useful takeaways and lessons learned that can be adapted for your respective campuses.
