The Riverside Group was formed in 1998 with the merger of Riverside Book Bindery, Zahrndt's Book Bindery, Seneca Book Bindery, and Monroe Paper Finishing. This consolidation was the final step in a series of acquisitions that changed the face of the binding and finishing industry in the greater Rochester area and beyond. In 1937, Seneca Book Bindery was founded as a competitor to Riverside PUR Bin
ding. Zahrndt's Book Bindery was formed in 1906, serving the northeastern United States with case-bound books. The reputation they earned for high quality work carried them through the good years as well as bad. In 1985, Riverside Book Bindery acquired Zahrndt's in order to expand Riverside's services. During the same time frame, Riverside also acquired Senica Book Bindery. Monroe Paper Finishing was founded in 1979 by Peter Pape when he acquired Monroe Tape Process and added various additional services. In 1988, Monroe Paper Finishing acquired Riverside Book Bindery, leading to the formation of The Riverside Group. Our latest addition, Laminating Arts and Finishes, was acquired in 2002. The Riverside Group operated it's four divisions out of three separate locations until 1993, when Riverside Book Bindery and Zahrndt's were combined to form the Zahrndt's division, and Monroe Paper Finishing and Senica Book Bindery were combined to form the Monroe Paper Finishing division. This move consolidated The Riverside Group into two locations, making the task of managing much simpler and cost effective. The final consolidation took place in the spring of 1998, placing all production and management in its current location.
