This project called for a full garboard removal and replacement — the garboard being the first plank that lands in the keel rabbet and forms the backbone of a wooden hull. Once the deteriorated plank was removed, the inner structure was exposed so the frames and keel landing could be inspected and cleaned back to sound timber.

A new solid timber garboard strake was milled, planed, and carefully fitted to match the original profile. After a precise dry fit, the plank was bedded, fastened, and drawn tight into the keel rabbet to restore the strength and watertight integrity of the hull.

It’s the kind of repair you rarely see… but it’s what keeps classic wooden yachts alive for decades to come.
