Lake Powell: Aquatic Invasive Species Observation Day — May 30

Lake Powell is one of the most iconic waters in the West — and one of the most vulnerable. On May 30, Deepwater Conservation Initiative is heading out for a dedicated Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Observation Day, documenting signs of quagga mussels and other threats that impact ecosystems, infrastructure, and recreation across the Colorado River Basin. This is a unique opportunity to see invasive quagga mussel beds.

This work matters. Every observation helps protect the waterways millions depend on.

📅 Date: May 30 8:00AM
📍 Location: Lake Powell Bullfrog Marina
🔎 Focus: Quagga Mussel Observation and Recording

From divers and boaters to shoreline stewards, everyone has a role in protecting our waters. Follow along as we share what we find — and how you can help keep invasive species from spreading.

We have posted our first AIS observation dates on the Front Range!

But we need your help.

Deepwater Conservation Initiative is expanding into the Rockies — building a statewide conservation program and launching Colorado’s first community‑driven AAUS scientific diving program. This is a huge step toward protecting the rivers, reservoirs, and alpine ecosystems that millions rely on.

But to make it real, we need partners who believe in hands‑on science, community action, and protecting the waters that sustain us.

Your support today helps us:

• Train the next generation of scientific divers
• Restore freshwater habitats across the state
• Equip volunteers with the tools to collect real ecological data
• Build a conservation program rooted in community, science, and impact

This is the moment where your contribution truly matters.

If you believe Colorado deserves healthy waterways and a stronger conservation future, we’d be honored to have you with us.

Donate. Share. Get involved.

Together, we can build something powerful for Colorado’s waters.
