Our Gallmeyer Farms FAMOUS Sweet Corn is picked several times a day. That attention to picking means you get super fresh corn. It may be minutes old or hours old but it won't be days old or WEEKS OLD. You don't have to wonder how long it's been lingering in a warehouse. Because we have no warehouse.
We have Nando and Nando2.
And wheelbarrows.

My grandparents lived across from a general store, complete with a pot belly stove with chairs sitting 'round it and a floor with holes you could peer through and see the dirt. When I was a tot, I'd go to the store with my Paw Paw.He bought me candy and tucked it neatly into a little paper bag (or sack as we call it in NC) and I sat on his lap in one of the chairs surrounding the stove and ate my candy while I listened to folks talk.
There was always news; Mr. Sanders had passed away, his wife moved to Georgia to be close to their daughter. The fishing at the river had never been better. Catfish this long (always measured on the arm). The mill is talking about laying off. The gardens need rain.
We don't have general stores anymore. We meet, greet, chat, and gather news from that ethereal thing we call the internet.
There are rare places that allow folks to meet and greet and trade stories. Rare places that allow strangers to become friends and friends to become like family.
There is one spot we can think of that extends the invitation to peruse fresh from the garden delights, meet, greet and enjoy community.
It's called The Veggie Stand. It's at the corner of Millers Lane and Gay Ave. It's an open air farmers market. I worked there last Saturday and it's an experience I'll treasure. I'll treasure smiles, fishing stories, cookin' stories and the sharing of family memories.
There are always a couple of chairs sitting at the check out register, just the same as the chairs that sat around the pot belly stove at my PawPaw's store. Those chairs are for folks like Ray who likes to sit and chat about NASCAR. For Pete who will always trade a story or two about his cows. There's a place for Randy to trade a fishing story or two with customers. There's a place for you, if you want to turn a veggie shopping trip into an experience.
We are a family farm. We are all about community. We stay at this corner because we want to be a part of your family experiences and sweet memories.
Come on down to The Veggie Stand and EXPERIENCE old fashioned hospitality, heirloom veggies and fresh picked goodness. And a story or two.
