Owner of Crack Brisket, Mac Magalindan BS’05, is a native of the Philippines who lives in Allen, Texas. He discovered that smoking and barbecuing brisket was a great way to decompress from his nine-to-five job, and it eventually became a way for him to connect with Asian communities and others across North Texas. The University of Texas at Dallas earned a school-record five places — four students and an alum — in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program this spring. The recipients have disparate backgrounds, experiences and aspirations — from teaching to conducting research to pursuing law careers. UT Dallas alumni are invited to apply to participate in CometX, a six-week startup accelerator July 8 to Aug. 19. Sponsored by the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the free program is open to UT Dallas students, faculty, staff and alumni. Participants will come together for a bonus week to pitch innovation ideas for startups to mentors and industry leaders for feedback.
