THE NIGHT AT THE OPERA | 19th Century Framed + Signed Etching

Opera gloves. Fans. Top hats. They’re all here in this elegant etching, “In der loge,” by German artist, archaeologist, and architect Rudolf Adensen Wiegmann (1804-1865).

With an array of interests, Wiegmann traveled to Pompei to study wall paintings, invented a system of roof joints, and served as a Professor of Architecture and Perspective in Dusseldorf.

This piece was perhaps part of his extensive collection of 1835 works.
