Summer has been busy here at the ranch. The guests have been busy moving cows, looking for strays, putting out salt, helping doctor sick animals, and I think they even added a little fence mending in the mix.
When not out on the mountain, some of the guests got to try their hand at branding some of the youngest calves and newly purchased cows here at the ranch. They also have been good help with feeding the bottle calves and other daily tasks.
Carson”s been great help with taking the guests to the mountains. He’s good natured and a great cowboy. I’m always hearing good things about him from the guests, like he is a lot of fun, but also very respectful of people. I know we sure enjoy having him here and appreciate his help.
On a personal note, Tyler and Alison welcomed a baby girl in July, adding to the herd of Derk and Tina’s grandkids. She’s a beauty, just like her mom.

It's been a busy 3 months here at the ranch. We started calving the last part of January. We have over 450 on the ground, and about 130 left to get. It's been a good season and the calves have stayed healthy and are growing fast. Derk and Hadley have done the biggest share of calving this year, and Braiden keeps the cows and horses fed, and does the doctoring. All three of them have been working hard to keep things going. And we all appreciate when Derk and Tina's grandkids come help out.

We took advantage of a decent day this past Friday and branded and vaccinated all of the older calves, so a good portion of them is done and ready to go to the mountains, when the time comes. We had a lot of good help, good ropers, and good horses to get the job done.

It's hard to believe we are almost to April already. They say time flies when you're having fun. Well, I can't say calving season is all that much fun, but the time sure has flown by. It won't be long now, and we will be welcoming our friends and extended family back. We are all looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!!
