Community Meeting for NE Sunset Blvd. Fence Art
Community members are invited to be part of a public art project on a large fence along NE Sunset Blvd - between Edmonds Ave. NE and Harrington Ave. NE. This fence is in need of upgrades, and the City is working to create a beautiful piece of art that reflects the community to bring new life to the Sunset corridor.
Project artists will be holding two community meetings to share design ideas and get inspiration for the project. Please join us and encourage those you may know to attend at one of two sessions at the Renton Highlands Library: Tuesday, January 15th, 5:30-6:30 PM or Sunday, January 20th, 3:30-4:30 PM.
This will be one of the largest art piece in Renton, and we want to showcase Sunset with your help!

Emphasis on Safety as Renton Fireworks Ban Enforced
RENTON, WA—Renton residents are reminded that it is illegal to possess or discharge fireworks of any kind in the city of Renton throughout the year, including on July 4. The ban on fireworks went into effect in 2005, by voter approval, and prohibits the personal discharge of fireworks within the city limits year-round, including on July 4 and New Year's Eve. It is also illegal to sell or possess fireworks within the city limits.
“The fireworks ban is in place to protect citizens and their property, and it is working,” said Mark Peterson, Fire Chief/Emergency Services Administrator. “Since 2005, we have seen a significant reduction in the number of painful injuries and costly property losses related to the use of fireworks.”
Violators are subject to both criminal and civil citations, confiscation of fireworks and possible fines of $100 to $500. Additionally, the sale, possession, or use of explosive devices such as M-80s, M-100s, and homemade or modified fireworks are felony offenses, and violators will face criminal prosecution. To report violators, please call 9-1-1.
To enjoy fireworks safely, the community is encouraged to attend Renton’s public fireworks display on Saturday, July 4, at 10:00 p.m. at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park in Renton, 1201 Lake Washington Blvd. Festivities and activities begin at 12:00 p.m. so go early and make a day of it with your family.
For more information about the fireworks ban, call the Renton Fire & Emergency Services Department at 425-430-7000. For information on Renton’s Fabulous 4th of July Celebration call 425-430-6600
