To all of our neighbors,
My husband Ray and I are the owners and operators of Acme Glass LLC, we have been in the industry for over 35 years, have held our Nevada contractor’s license for over 15 years and have been located here in Reno for 4 years. We are currently working on our new location on the corner of Lakeside and Plumb. We have a 5 star rating with Home Advisor with over 300 reviews and our business plan is simple, to build our business with integrity, and to be a part of our community.
We are trying to get the word out that if someone has a concern or question regarding a glass issue Ray and I are available to answer their questions and by utilizing multimedia, if they are capable, will walk them through a temporary repair or identify if it is a situation that they need to have a professional address. In an emergency situation, If the family is struggling financially, elderly etc., and is not able to secure or complete the temporary repair, Ray will respond at no charge.
Here are a few examples:
Broken window – remove glass, board up if needed
Shower or bath tub enclosure, hinges are loose, door is off track- remove glass and move to a secure location
Door or window not locking – clean out track adjust rollers if that will not fix, a secondary lock option will be installed.
If you have any input it is welcome!
Ray and I have followed all Covid 19 guidelines. Most of the repairs can be completed from the exterior with minimal access to the interior. If we do have to enter the dwelling we will ask the customer questions that we would not normally ask and request minimal contact. It is very important to us that we can, with confidence, enter our customers home with as much assurance that we can give that we have taken every precaution possible.
I have personal experience with losing a loved one, my husband of 25 years to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and after a five year fight we lost the battle due to outside exposure. I share this with the hope that you will understand that this is very important to us. The need to be able to help in some way makes that loss and the knowledge gained from it in some way easier to accept. We are willing to do whatever is in our power to help our community right now. We were both raised in small towns and it is our nature to respond to our neighbor’s needs. My home in Alta, CA actually sounds a siren from the local volunteer fire department alerting the community that someone needs help, and we respond. It is simple if you can you do, if you can’t there’s someone who can.
Together we are strong.
Sincerely, Ray and Sheila Wood
The Acme Glass Team recently met with Carlos Picoy, General Manager of the Nevada Branch of La Masia Window and door Systems. We are proud to announce our new partnership. We will be taken on as the primary installation contractor in the Northern Nevada Region. This is a new product to the region that far exceeds the quality of any other. This product is designed specifically to fulfill all of the expectations of the most prestigious custom home builders.
La Masia offers industry-leading performance. The performance values of their domestic Windows and Doors places them in an entirely different class than the current market of domestic windows. Consider Energy Star windows, for example. An Energy Star compliant U-value is typically 0.3 (the lower the u-value, the better the performance). La Maisa's best window, the 4600 Lift and slide HI system, boasts a U-value of 0.16, insulating more than two times better than an Energy Star window. Even their most economical window, 4200 Sliding system has a U-value of .026, exceeding Energy Star by more than 10%. La Masia's Classic (dual glazed) lines out perform most domestic triple glazed windows while being clearer (high visibility light transmittance), more economical, and offering more design flexibility. La Masia's Thermal (triple glazed) lines boosts energy efficiency by wide margins, creating balanced draft-free comfort. Take a look at the performance values and consider how they can partner with you to achieve your design goals.
Lift and slide systems with virtually effortless operation gives their product the tightest seals available.
La Masia's Tilt & Turn windows use only the finest German muti-point hardware sets available to ensure a smooth and effortless operation. These windows can both swing in and tilt in with a simple turn of their ergonomic handle. European designs often use Tilt & Turn windows for additional ventilation access.
Tilt & Turn windows can be very large, with each sash up to five and a half feet wide. All of La Masia's Tilt & Turn windows have a multi point locking mechanism providing safety and superb air sealing.
Integrated Rolling Shutter system option. By incorporating shutter box to headrail and tracking into frame. Creating complete unit, window and shutter all in one. By adding shutter assembly, La Masia gets a true black out application. Offered in a variety of options security and privacy or protection form the elements they have you covered.
Some of their door products just to name a few are, Cor-vision plus, Bi-fold system, Lift & slide system, Slidng system. There are literally no limits as to what this company can design for you.
We are truly excited about this product, it is the stuff that Glazing contractors nerd out about. We do our best to always promote Local and American made products, in this case there is just no other product that can compare to the attention and care to quality and design that this product brings to our market.

NORTHERN NEVADA & THE LAKE TAHOE REGION; HARDWATER AND YOUR GLASS
Water spots created by the hardwater in our area cause a lot of frustration for our customers. Hard water has a high concentration of minerals that over time can leave water spots on your shower enclosures and windows. If not cleaned on a regular basis these minerals (water spots) can cause permanent damage referred to as water etching. Water etching can leave the glass cloudy and rough.
If you are considering installing a new shower enclosure or you have an existing enclosure that you would like to take steps to protect, the following options and information can be utilized to restore your existing enclosure as well as glass products available to prevent this problem with a new shower enclosure.
When considering a new enclosure manufactures offer different types of applied glass protectants. Applied glass protectants are a coating that protects the glass from the Heavy Minerals and makes it easier to clean. These glass protectants applied by the manufacturer have been found to reduce water etching, and in some manufacturers, they have a higher impact and scratch tolerance. These products do add expense to your purchase but protect your investment.
We work with two different types off manufacturer applied glass protectants.
Product category: Hydro - Phobic water repelling
Supporters claim that by repelling water and the minerals that it carries, fewer drops remain to dry on the glass leaving less spots that do not adhere as strongly to the smooth glass surface. This method creates a more hygienic atmosphere that is easier to clean.
The Manufacturer that we use is Diamond Fusion International this is a Hydro – Phobic product
In testing it was found that glass with this coating is more impact and scratch tolerant and can be applied with much greater flexibility allowing repairs and application in the field. This product offers a great value for the performance.
Product category: Hydro – Philic water attracting
Supporters claim That by attracting the water to the glass it falls in sheets carrying away loose materials and the remaining water and mineral deposits are spread broadly making the staining not as immediately noticeable.
The manufacturer that we use is Clarvista Vitro Glass Co this is a Hydro – Philic product
This product needs ample sun light to work to its full potential creating an oxidizing effect on build up and in proper conditions has been likened to self-cleaning. This product does not increase your impact tolerance and scratches very easily. A scratch cannot be repaired, and product cannot be re applied if needed.
Please always refer to your manufactures instructions for cleaning and maintenance. Here are some suggestions.
1. Always use non-abrasive cleaning mediums such as a buff cloth, shower squeegee, or Magic Eraser.
2. Use only ammonia free products like Windex ammonia free, Sprayway or a simple 50% water & 50% white vinegar solution.
3. Using your choice of cleaning medium and cleaning product work in a circular motion to clean the glass. Continue until you can no longer feel rough spots and the glass is smooth.
4. After cleaning the glass rinse with low pressure warm water. High pressure cleaning can damage the applied glass protectant.
5. Some say that keeping a shower squeegee hanging in enclosure and using it to remove excess water from glass after use can further limit the hassle when its time to clean.
Most manufactures state that you should clean your showers monthly using one of the methods above and by doing so these applied glass protectants can last a lifetime.
1. Existing enclosures that have water spots that are difficult to remove and there are no signs of water etching these same cleaning steps, determination and little elbow grease should get the desired result. If you are considering using a product such as CLR we recommend that you contact your glass company to make sure that it safe to use on your glass and will not cause additional damage.
2. When you have removed the water spots from your existing enclosure you can look into the many DIY products for applied glass protectants. Spend some time researching the products to find the one that you feel comfortable applying and fits your needs. When working with these applications it is very important to start with clean dry glass Follow the manufacturers instructions for the best results.
When choosing a glass company for your new shower installation we recommend that you request information on their manufactures, products and warranty’s that are available to you. It is also very helpful to look at photos for shower configuration and styles, glass samples and hardware options. This helps with new design or complimenting your existing design. I know that I sound like a broken record but do your research!! With the knowledge behind your choices you will be happy with the outcome.
These cleaning methods and applied glass protectants can also be used on your windows, remember to confirm with your glass company to ensure that they are compatible to use with your glass type.
