One man carried the mail through some of the harshest country in the American West.
This week on Map Adventures, Iβm telling the forgotten story of George Chorpenning and the π₯ππ ππ§πππ«π² ππππ€ππ¬π¬ πππ’π₯ a dangerous overland mail route that crossed deserts, mountains, and isolated wilderness long before modern transportation connected the frontier.
Using mules animals, rough wagon trails, and pure determination, Chorpenning helped prove that the Central Route across Nevada could work paving the way for the Pony Express and eventually the transcontinental telegraph.
