Rockingham County Fatal Hit and Run Collision

On Sunday, June 21, at approximately 10:33 pm, the State Highway Patrol responded to a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian being fatally struck on NC 65 near NC 87 in front of the Rockingham County Courthouse in Wentworth.

The initial investigation has determined that a gray or silver in color vehicle was traveling on NC 65 and struck a pedestrian that was walking in the roadway on NC 65 causing the death of the pedestrian. The vehicle fled the scene and is believed to have traveled in the direction of Reidsville NC. The deceased pedestrian is identified as Javier Hernandez Sandoval, 65 years old, of Reidsville.

The suspect vehicle is believed to have front end damage. Investigators are searching for any vehicle that may fit this description and would have possibly been in this location.
