A lovely little town tucked away in the south of France, on my first visit I missed a lot of what there was to see and do, but it was also funny to run into some other travelers from the US as the only other customers in a small restaurant that we visited. glad they were there, as they helped us to decipher the menu :-) 

The ancient city of Vaison-la-Romaine in the Vaucluse contains two extraordinary excavated Roman city districts, the Quartier de Puymin and the Quartier de la Villasse, with streets, houses, shops, and thermal baths preserved under what was until the 20th century a living provincial town.

Those who walk through the excavated Roman streets between houses where the original mosaic floors and plumbing are still in place and then cross the extraordinary single-arch Roman bridge to the medieval haute ville above describe it as the most complete and most varied Roman and medieval heritage experience available in a single day in Provence.
