Western Pennsylvania is home to many small towns created from the oil boom in the late 1800's. Considered by many to be the center of the lower oil region, Petrolia was born when the “Fanny Jane” well was struck on April 1st of 1872. The oil industry in the region was in decline by 1879 and population went from 1,100 in 1880 to less than 200 today.

In these days of consolidation, the Post Office continues to serve communities of all sizes. The post office in Bruin, located in Butler County, PA proudly serves it's community that makes up less than 2 square miles and is home to about 400 people.

In 2023, the Postal Service delivered mail and packages to 166.6 million delivery points nationwide utilizing nearly a quarter million vehicles - one of the largest fleets in the world.
