What does "use with caution" actually mean?

In aromatherapy, the phrase "use with caution" doesn't automatically mean an essential oil is unsafe. Instead, it's a reminder that how an essential oil is used matters.

Safety recommendations may take into account factors such as an essential oil's chemical composition, appropriate dilution, route of application, individual sensitivity, and the age or life stage of the person using it. These recommendations are intended to support informed decision-making, not discourage appropriate use.

Understanding the why behind safety guidance helps us move beyond memorizing rules and toward developing safe, evidence-informed practices.

After all, safety isn't about fear; it's about knowledge, context, and respect for the powerful nature of aromatic plants.
