The main reason isn’t her Achilles…

It’s the lack of control of her hip resulting in abnormal force pattern through the foot. You see she rolls her foot out on the left compared to the right. That creates abnormal strain to the tendon resulting in increase infiltratrarion of fluid resulting in pain and stiffness.

So while we want to improve the Achilles position, we can’t do it without fixing the hip first. By prioritizing this, we reduce symptoms immediately and allowed her to build back a better capacity of strength and dynamic movement that allowed her to go back to tennis with confidence.

This is how we work with our athletes. Find the root cause, rebuild the foundation and prepare them for their sport or training they love to do.

If you’re struggling with pain or recurring injuries that aren’t getting better, send us a DM or check out our website for a free consult call.

Traditional PT would tell her to stop squatting, that’s not what happens here at Xcel.

Victoria demonstrated a lack of control of the left hip during the descent phase of the squat which was causing pain and tightness.

This was one of her warm up drills we added for her to do before squatting to help her body create better position for under load. We then allowed her to go lift weights through a range she could control so she could reinforce this pattern.

Telling her to stop squatting would do more damage than good. The body needs stress to make changes. We just make sure it’s good stress that reinforces a better movement pattern.

That’s what athletes and active people need. Not rest.
