I'm watching the 2024 Oshkosh STOL (Short TakeOff & Landing) demo, which centers around a guy running a turbo-boosted 998cc Yamaha RX-1 snowmobile engine that "with the right fuel" he's getting a short 300 HP from a normal 140 HP 4 cylinder. He cranks up the motor and is literally taking off in less than the length of the airplane. The plane is basically the layout of a Piper Cub.
I've had my 2015 Dodge Durango for almost three years now. Last week the engine went from "whir... start", to "u-rir... Go away". It jump-started fine and didn't do the "battery is dying" imitation for a few days. I jumped it again with the same results.
So I am trying another experiment. I have a "VIKING 2/8/15 Amp Automatic Microprocessor Controlled Battery Charger" from Harbor Freight that was recommended in an article in Kitplanes. It has a Recondition Battery option. I don't have any documentation and even as a retired Electrical Engineer with significant experience in Lead-Acid batteries, I don't know anything about that feature. But it has worked satisfactorily on the Walmart(ish) motorcycle batteries in my Cub Cadet garden tractor driven by a 588 cc Kohler 16 HP engine. If you don't hear anything back, the experiment will be deemed a success.
