“Can I come over and hold the baby?” like that’s the main event.
Of course you can meet the baby. That’s not the issue.
But can we not forget there’s a mom in the room too?
She just went through labor.
She’s bleeding. Healing. Running on zero sleep.
Trying to figure everything out all at once.
The baby doesn’t need entertaining.
The baby needs THEIR MOM.
So if you’re coming over … be helpful.
Load the dishwasher.
Fold a basket of laundry.
Wipe the counters.
Bring food.
Let MOM also hold her baby while you take something off her plate.
Because showing up for a new mom isn’t about getting baby cuddles…
it’s about actually supporting her.
