🌍 Deep Dive: Everyday Environmentalism – Fostering Climate Justice in Higher Education

MALS Alumni 2024 graduate Lani St. Hill from NC State University has garnered attention with her award-winning essay, “Everyday Environmentalism: Fostering Climate Justice in Higher Education,” which recently won the Excellence in Interdisciplinary Writing Award from the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP).

As the world grapples with the multifaceted challenges of climate change, higher education institutions are stepping up to equip future leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive meaningful change. Lani's essay goes beyond the conventional focus on scientific and technical expertise, emphasizing that it is students who hold the power to inspire action and influence their communities.

Through her role as Communications and Engagement Coordinator for NC State’s Sustainability Office, Lani sheds light on the “Everyday Environmentalism” digital campaign. This initiative celebrates student-led efforts that promote sustainability, showcasing how individual actions can collectively create a ripple effect across campus and beyond.

Lani's work underscores the significance of cultural change in the fight for climate justice. By framing sustainability within the context of social justice and cultural diversity, she encourages universities to engage students through informal learning and digital storytelling, helping to foster an inclusive environment where sustainable practices become the norm.

Join us in exploring Lani's insights and celebrating her achievement, which serves as a beacon of inspiration for students and institutions alike! 🎉

🎉 Congratulations to Brayden Narveson, a 2024 MALS graduate, on his stunning NFL debut! 🎉

Brayden, originally from Arizona and a former NC State standout, made headlines with a record-breaking 59-yard field goal in his first preseason game with the Tennessee Titans. This incredible kick gave his team the lead and sealed a 16-15 victory over the Seattle Seahawks with a game-winning 46-yard field goal as time expired. 🏈

Titans’ head coach Brian Callahan was impressed by Brayden's performance. Completing all three of his field goal attempts, Brayden’s debut is one for the books! 🙌

We’re proud to see our NC State MALS alumni making waves in the NFL. Keep soaring, Brayden! 💪 NC State College of Humanities and Social Sciences NC State University Graduate School
